Climate Connections: How to Bring Climate Into Your Organization

Climate Connections: How to Bring Climate Into Your Organization

We’re all here because we believe in more ambitious climate action in BC. But we come from different places, from different sectors – from agriculture and the arts to labour and faith, and beyond. And climate action doesn’t always show up at the forefront of our work, even if it touches every aspect of our lives.

So what do we do? How can we integrate systemic climate action into our work and lives, no matter where we find ourselves?

That’s what we’ll be answering at Climate Connections – a series of casual lunch-hour conversations featuring BCCEC signatories who have made it their job to bring climate action into their field.

Climate Connections Events:

Disability and Climate Justice
Thursday, August 1 @ 12:30-1:30pm PT

People with disabilities and other pre-existing health conditions have increased vulnerability to climate-related extreme weather events. Learn how one organization is working to ensure the voices of those with disabilities are centred amidst the climate crisis, and how your organization can do the same.

Speakers:

  • Glen Hoos, Down Syndrome Resource Foundation

Post-Secondary Education & Climate
Thursday, August 15 @ 12:30-1:30pm PT

Higher education institutions serve as hubs for learning, research, and development. While they have the potential to be leaders on climate action, however, large bureaucracies can also pose challenges that may hinder progress. Hear from three speakers who will discuss how those within higher education can drive change from within, shaping institutions to prioritize climate learning and action.

Speakers:

  • Sue Fairburn, Kwantlen Polytechnic University

  • Dr. Kshamta Hunter, University of British Columbia

  • Dr. Rosalind Warner, Okanagan College / Federation of Post-Secondary Educators, Climate Action Standing Committee

Faith in the Future: Spiritual Pathways to Climate Action
Thursday, August 22 @ 12:30-1:30pm PT

  • Reverend Joyce Parry-Moore, Anglican Diocese of New Westminster

  • Amal Abdullah, Green Ummah

Arts, Culture & Climate
Thursday, August 29 @ 12:30-1:30pm PT

Arts and culture possess the transformative ability to forge emotional connections and ignite action. Yet, these industries can also contribute significantly to emissions. Join us as we hear from two speakers representing arts and culture organizations who are championing climate-conscious practices in their sector.

Speakers:

  • Tracey Friesen, Canadian Media Producers Association, BC

  • Viviane Gosselin, Museum of Vancouver / Coalition of Museums for Climate Justice
