ABOUT:

This working group raises awareness about the health and climate impacts of burning methane gas indoors, and advocates for a province-wide ban on gas in new buildings and scaled-up investment to switch existing buildings from fossil fuels to clean electricity.

Abacus Poll Commissioned on Gas in Buildings

In November 2023, the Climate Emergency Unit (on behalf of the BCCEC buildings working group) commissioned a poll from Abacus Data to determine the B.C. public’s views on getting gas out of buildings.

Buildings Working Group Publishes Open Letter

In December 2022, the buildings working group put together an open letter signed by 100 organizations representing the building sector, labour, municipalities, housing associations, health professionals and climate groups calling on the B.C. government to keep gas out of new buildings.
